Professor Jan Bergmanson receives Life Fellowship of College of Optometrists
Old friends and colleagues Andrew Field & Simon Barnard were guests of Professor Jan Bergmanson (centre), Department of Optometry, University of Houston, USA when Jan was honoured with Life Fellowship of the College of Optometrists, in London, November 2013.
Macula Nutrition Conference
On 9th July 2013, Dr Simon Barnard attended the Macular Carotenoids Conference held at Downing College, Cambridge University. The conference discussed the latest evidence-based reseearch on the use and effect of lutein, zeaxanthin, and meso-zeaxanthin on macular degeneration. In addition to optical coherence tomography (OCT), Barnard Levit Optometrists have now added new technology to diagnose macular degeneration as well as assessing risk, including the Elektron MPS II macular pigment analyser, the Innova Cone Colour Contrast Sensitivity test and a sophisticated contrast sensitivity analyser.

Dr Barnard presents lectures on Retinal Disease to Synsam, Norway
Simon Barnard presented four days of lectures on Retinal Disease in Oslo from 3rd to 6th of June 2013. The audience were optometrists Synsam, the largest chains of opticians in Scandanavia. He gave talks on subjects that included diabetes, macular degeneration and glaucoma.
The four day seminar was designed to provide continuing education to refresh and update the knowledge of the Synsam optometrists many of who have recently added retinal cameras to their diagnostic equipment and clinical service they provide to their patients.

Simon Barnard attended the conference in Boston, USA 3rd - 7th April 2013 where he was a co-presenter of the poster: Dahlmann-Noor AH, Adams G, Maor R, Yashiv Y, Barnard S (2013) Real- time automatic strabismus screening using digital image analysis techniques, Journal of AAPOS, Volume 17, Issue1, Page e13, February. Along with colleagues Yuval Yashiv and Gordon Bott from IRISS Medical Technologies, Dr Barnard discussed and demonstrated IRISS Medical Technologies' innovative device developed to automatically screen babies and young children for strabismus with many interested ophthalmologists and orthoptists from the USA, Honduras, Costa Rica, UK and Israel.
